Massage Therapy Pressure more Important than Massage Treatment Duration

Research by Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center provides validation that a deep pressure massage is more important to better treatment outcomes. The Ohio State study also goes on to say that the duration of the massage is less important than the amount of pressure applied during the massage treatment. The science behind this relates to the fact that massage therapy helps reduce inflammation, improves enzyme production for muscle and facia repair, and helps break up old fascial adhesions caused by injury. So by receiving a deep tissue massage from a massage therapist the deeper fascial layers of your body can be reached thus stimulation a faster recovery and improving athletic performance.

At painPRO Clinics we consistently try to educate our clients that a shorter massage when done properly can improve your recovery time, improve athletic performance, and save you money at the same time. The important thing to remember is that one massage isn’t always going to do the trick. Many people assume that most massage therapy treatments need to be 60 minutes long. We now have proof that a well trained RMT can be more effective when treatments times are shortened and massage frequency increased.
