Whiplash

By November 7, 2014Blog, Whiplash

The medical terminology for this condition is cervical strain, cervical sprain, or hyperextension/ hyperflexion injury. If you have it all you know is that it hurts and makes your everyday life a little less enjoyable

Cause

Whiplash is a nonmedical term used to describe neck pain following an injury to the soft tissues of your neck (specifically ligaments, tendons, and muscles). It is caused by an abnormal motion or force applied to your neck that causes movement beyond the neck’s normal range of motion.

Whiplash often occurs in motor vehicle accidents, sporting activities, accidental and falls. Regardless of the reason having whiplash is no fun…especially when it has become a prolonged chronic issue.

Symptoms

  • Sensory disturbance (such as pins and needles) to the arms & legs.
  • Sleeplessness.
  • Tiredness.
  • Headaches.
  • Ringing in ears.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Concentration or memory problems.
  • Irritability.
  • Lower back pain.
  • Pain and aching to the neck and back.
  • Referred pain to the shoulders.
  • Pain in the arm and/or hand.
  • Numbness in the arm and/or hand/li>

Solutions

Our team of massage therapists have extensive training in dealing with whiplash injuries. We create a treatment program that is as unique as your injury…not all whiplashes are the same. Some of you may have ligament damage, and others tendon/ muscular damage. One very common problem that occurs is the development of myfascial adhesions that compromise your ability to move normally and stifles the healing process.

Whether you have tried other forms of therapy that haven’t worked, or this is a recent injury, book an appointment today and let our team of RMT professionals help you.
