“Massage Therapy is an evidence-informed, natural, non-invasive intervention for pain and dysfunction present in the body’s soft tissue and joints.”
What is Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?
The profession of Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) has evolved to become a primary health care modality in many Canadian Provinces. The RMT profession in BC is regulated by the College of Massage Therapy of BC (CMTBC). This central governing body works with the Provincial Government, under the Health Professions Act, to provide regulatory mechanisms that ensure public safety and a standardized educational format focused on providing successful registrants a minimum level of competency in the RMT profession. To further ensure on-going professional competency the CMTBC requires all registered massage therapists to complete a minimum 24 hours of approved continuing education courses (CEC’s) every two years.

The health care profession of Registered Massage Therapy is far more advanced than typical body work or relaxation massage. There is a misconception that Massage Therapy is purely a feel good stress relief treatment. Although there are Registered Massage Therapy professionals who work with stress related issues this represents a small percentage of treatments.
The ultimate goal of Massage Therapy is to improve soft tissue and joint health through the manual manipulation of soft tissue, connective tissue, muscles, ligaments, and tendons coupled with therapeutic exercise. There are numerous evidence informed techniques employed with the ultimate goal of reducing pain, speeding up injury recovery, and improving movement performance.
There is a significant and growing field of Registered Massage Therapy that is focused on pain relief, injury recovery, and movement performance. This is the aspect of the industry that painPRO is best known for.
Why Use a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
Health care professionals with the designation as a Registered Massage Therapist or RMT have completed a minimum of 2200 hours of College level education. The basis of the educational curriculum is centered around evidence informed solutions to soft tissue and joint problems. In addition to having minimum passing grades all registrants have successfully passed rigorous Provincial exams based on academic knowledge and practical hands on skills.
The importance to you is the assurance that any health care professional with the RMT designation has the proven ability to provide safe and effective health care for your soft tissue and joint dysfunction.
How are painPRO RMT’s Different?
At painPRO we are committed to the professional growth of all our Registered Massage Therapists and allocate significant resources to ensuring they have the highest professional standards in the industry. Here are a few of the things we do to ensure you get the best treatment possible:
Patient Centered
All RMT’s working with painPRO are independent contractors and have been contracted based on their patient centered focus. In our eyes no amount of education can take the place of a Massage Therapist who values who you are and looks out for your best interests.
RMT Development Program
We provide all our RMT partners free access to company sponsored education. Each quarter we create courses that focus on evidence informed approaches for treating soft tissue and joint dysfunction. All our courses are approved by the CMTBC for mandatory continuing education credits.
Education Re-Imbursement Program
Our rational is that the more your massage therapist knows the better they will be at understanding how to get you better fast. For this reason we provide all our RMT’s full or partial re-imbursement for evidence informed courses approved by the CMTBC.
Patient Retention
We understand that good massage therapy treatments are hard to define. What is good for you may not be good for someone else. In order to help us remove the subjective nature of massage therapy treatments we have innovated a way to help us assess the effectiveness of all our RMT partners. Each therapist is tracked by the therapeutic relationship they have with their patient base. In our view an RMT with a high level of returning patients has what we call good “patient retention”. Our rational is that if you have a great experience with a therapist you will want to see them again. We work hand in hand with our professionals to give them all the tools they need to ensure you have the best massage treatment experience possible.
