“Active Rehab is a specialized movement program designed to help improve or recover physical function after traumatic injury, surgery, or health crisis”
Active Rehabilitation – What is it?
The Active Rehab program is designed to recover physical function after a traumatic injury such as a motor vehicle accident, sports injury, or work-related accident. This can be a direct referral from ICBC, WSBC, lawyers or therapists. This program is run solely by a Registered Kinesiologist but does not mean a patient won’t be using other services in conjunction.
Active Rehab program involves a detailed assessment with a job demands analysis and includes a written report. Based on recommendations by treating therapists in addition to assessment findings, a comprehensive exercise program is designed and a plan is put in place for the patient. This program may eventually include a gradual return to work (GRTW) plan and can be implemented while in the Active Rehab program.
The ultimate goal of Active Rehab is to get you back to full movement function in the shortest period of time possible while supporting the patient in building an exercise routine which they can incorporate into their lifestyle even after they have graduated from the program.

Active Rehab – Why Participate?
There are multiple reasons to participate in Active Rehabilitation, but the most important one is regaining a normal healthy active lifestyle. Traumatic injuries such as an automobile accident, sports injury, or work-related accident can have a devastating physical, financial, and emotional impact on your life.
Participation in an Active Rehab program is critical to help speed your recovery and get you back to active living. Research shows that early movement helps reduce pain, improves mood, and helps reduce recovery time.
This is why ICBC and WorkSafeBC support Active Rehab treatment interventions with a qualified health professional.
