The History of Shockwave Therapy…

The idea of shockwave therapy is generally new to the rehabilitation world.  It began in 1980s as a means of treating kidney stones – but it didn’t take health care professionals long to discover it was effective in treating the surrounding scar tissue as well.  Shockwave therapy Vancouver became FDA approved in 2001 and quickly made a presence in the musculoskeletal world as a distinctive treatment modality.

Will Shockwave Therapy Vancouver Hurt?

There may a slight level of discomfort based on tissue health prior to treatment.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Vancouver Work?

Strong energy pulses penetrate tissue and stimulates cellular connective tissue healing.

Prime Candidates…

Shockwave therapy Vancouver is used on a wide variety of diagnoses – we at painPRO therapeutics have found promising results treating: Tendinopathy (Achilles, Patellar, Hamstring, Rotator Cuff…), Trigger Points, Myofascial Conditions, Plantar Fasciitis, Calcified Tendons, Frozen Shoulder, Tennis Elbow, Trigger Finger, Morton’s Neuroma… the list goes on and on.

How Does It Work?

Shockwave therapy Vancouver helps relieve your pain by sending acoustic waves into the affected tissue.  This sound wave sends high-energy sound waves into the affected tissue and promotes tissue regeneration and revascularization.  Those are two big words… what they mean are… the acoustic waves created by the shockwave machine can stimulate collagen production, dissolve calcium, reverse chronic inflammation, help foster tissue recovery via blood vessel formation thereby increasing circulation, tissue metabolism and bone strength.  That’s still pretty complicated… more simply, shockwave therapy Vancouver can help reduce and ultimately resolve your pain by providing accelerated tissue repair and growth, restoring mobility, and providing an analgesic effect to let you get back to your usual self and activities.

Am I A Candidate?

Shockwave therapy Vancouver is generally safe for the majority of individuals (including children!); however, we advise to check with your doctor if you are pregnant, taking anti-inflammatories (i.e., ibuprofen, Advil, Naproxen), blood thinners, have a pacemaker or have any active cancer cells prior to seeking shockwave therapy.

What Should I Expect?

Depending on the condition, you should expect to receive 3-5 treatments this depends on your condition/diagnosis.  Prior to treatment we advise patients to discontinue taking anti-inflammatories and/or using ice for 4-7 days.  The treatment itself lasts less than 20 minutes and takes place once a week.  Treatment is mildly uncomfortable for some, but is short lasting and therefore tolerable.  Most patients feel relief following the first session and will have full resolution of there pain by the end of the treatment period.
