“Active Rehab is a specialized movement program designed to help improve or recover physical function after traumatic injury, surgery, or health crisis”
What is Active Rehabilitation?
The most common problem experienced by victims of automobile accidents (MVA), sport injuries, surgery, or health problems, is a reduced ability to move.
Active Rehab involves the assessment and retraining of your natural movement patterns. The ultimate goal of Active Rehab is to get you back to full movement function in the shortest period of time possible. Don’t confuse active rehab with exercise. Active rehab involves the retraining of the body to establish muscle recruitment patterns to perform task specific movement.
This starts with a thorough assessment of how your injury has impacted your movement function. The next step is the progressive retraining of your neuromuscular system to allow you pain free functional movement.

Why Participate in Active Rehab?
There are multiple reasons to participate in Active Rehabilitation but the most important one is regaining a normal healthy active lifestyle. Traumatic injury such as an automobile accident, sports injury, or work related accident can have a devastating physical, financial, and emotional impact on your life.
Participation in an Active Rehab program is critical to help speed your recovery and get you back to active living. Research shows that early movement helps reduce pain, improves mood, and helps reduce recovery time. That’s why ICBC and WorkSafe BC support Active Rehab treatment interventions with a qualified health professional.
How is painPRO’s Active Rehab Different?
Although the standard term used is Active Rehab at painPRO we prefer to use the term Functional Movement Rehabilitation. Your body has a powerful healing and self-organizing capacity and our role is to facilitate this with task specific movements. The essence of our program is the understanding that your movement patterns are unique to you. We do not apply a cookie cutter, one exercise fits all, approach to resolving your movement dysfunction.

There are numerous evidence informed techniques employed with the ultimate goal of reducing pain, speeding up injury recovery, and improving movement performance.
There is a significant and growing field of Registered Massage Therapy that is focused on pain relief, injury recovery, and movement performance. This is the aspect of the industry that painPRO is best known for.
